RESPONSIVE RESEARCH FUNDING SCHEME
The responsive research funding scheme has been created to support developmental and exploratory research projects. Up to £30,000 is available to support local research studies linked to the overall aims and objectives of the CORE research programme. Established and early career oral health researchers will be encouraged to apply for funding. Between 3-6 studies will be funded through this responsive funding mechanism.
Purpose of the responsive research funding scheme
This scheme is an important component of the overall CORE programme and is designed to provide small-scale funding to established and early career researchers to undertake developmental and exploratory research linked to the aims of the CORE programme. In particular, dental public health research linked to oral health inequalities, commercial determinants of oral health and oral health system reform shall be prioritised for funding. In addition, any planned research should also include clear plans on ways to engage and involve local communities in the planned research.
Eligibility
Applications from established and early career researchers are encouraged to apply to the scheme. Some prior research experience would be needed and for early career researchers details of support from more senior colleagues would be important.
Remittance
Projects are limited to a maximum of 12 months duration. Research activities potentially covered by the funding scheme could include any of the following:
- Completion of feasibility/pilot study (evidence of existing ethics approval would be required)
- Completion of exploratory research to help inform and develop future studies
- Development of local research network including community partners
- Preparation of ethics application for planned project
- Completion of background literature review (scoping, narrative or systematic reviews)
- Development of research proposal for submission to another research organisation for future funding
- Preparation of scientific publication
Ethics
Any studies or activities involving patients or community members would require local ethics approval. Due to the limited timeframe, funding should therefore only be allocated to primary research studies if ethical approval has already been granted.
